Film Recording in a Monastery

The short film "Color of a Goodbye" was directed and filmed in black & white by Max Houtman in 2020. I had the pleasure of composing the score and in February 2021 I booked the Arthema String Quartet inside one of the oldest monasteries in the Netherlands: Het Cenakel (Tilburg).




Since the film is about a woman who leaves her husband to go live in a monastery, it was fitting that we should record the score in the lush acoustics of Cenakel. The score is a warm sounding hybrid score with lots of emotional string passages. In the Cenakel we set up close mics and 120 degree room mics to capture the full potential of the hall. The final result will soon be published on Spotify.
